Anita Baker
Rapture
(Elektra; 1986)

Dressed in a glaze of Nancy Wilson lounge jazz and Luther Vandross silky soul, Anita Baker’s Rapture was a dream for R&B radio in the Eighties. Practically every song submerged into the set, including the majestic opener “Sweet Love,” the sexy inspiration of “You Bring Me Joy,” the dreamy title track and the peppy “Same Ole Love,” showcases the depth of Baker’s Detroit-seasoned artistry and her overflowing yearning for an addictive love. Frankly, it’s possibly one of the greatest love albums of all time, regardless of genre.
