HiFi Magazine designs a spectacular non-stop dance mixtape tribute to the Soul Train Gang

With 40 years of “love, peace and soul” behind them, Soul Train remains one of the greatest institutions designed to uplift and cultivate the soul music genre. Since its debut, Don Cornelius greeted millions of soul music lovers weekly with new music, popular acts and, with the help of  the talented Soul Train Dancers, introduced some of the funkiest dance moves to hit a dance floor.

That’s why we decided at HiFi to “turn up the volume” for Soul Train’s 40th anniversary with Soul Train Gang Mix Tape; a special mixtape containing 25 selections of soul, funk, R&B and disco. The mix includes favorites from Michael Jackson, the Spinners, the Purple One, Kool & the Gang, Elton John, Stephanie Mills, the O’Jays and many others.

“The idea to assemble something so unique like this sparked up after Time-Life released their special 8-DVD, TV offer box set this summer, said DJ J@tt, the mix wizard behind the Soul Train Gang Mixtape. “But the motivation to finally compile a tribute really bubbled up after the 2010 Soul Train Music Awards organized their first-ever Soul Website category.”

The new category mentioned a host of popular Soul websites including www.SoulBounce.com and www.SoulTracks.com.

The decision to honor soul music websites with its own award category proves that Soul Train Holdings and the brains behind the brand are making great strides to keep their product culturally viable in the 21st century.
