Erykah Badu: Gone Baby, Don’t Be Long
Music video for Lava Lamp soul burner gets Flying Lotus touch
In what appears to be a chess piece bearing an animated Erykah Badu on a 2-D chess piece, Badu makes her journey down a conveyer belt on what feels like an archetype of what Candy Land might look like in 2090. Directed by Flying Lotus, the concept video provides more of an updated visual tapestry of Jetsons decor than an actual storyline. Although her stroll in the park in “Window Seat” had a plot containing loads of interpretations, Badu’s envisioning of Janelle Monáe’s ArchAndroid universe leaves behind more questions than answers. This isn’t so much of a new idea either: Peter Gabriel played with the alternate universe concept in “Sledgehammer” and Michael Jackson perfected it in “Leave Me Alone.” Maybe this is where Badu – an unapologetic fan of the old school – got her creative output from.
