Tortured Soul
Did You Miss Me
(TSTC; 2008)

Jamiroquai grooves, Chic intelligence and Stevie Wonder riffs control the ambience of Tortured Soul’s dancefloor-veiled soul. Inside Did You Miss Me, the group’s first album, the tapestry of futuristic synths and four-on-the-floor beats shine brightest on “Home to You”,” “In My Fantasy” and “Your Dream Is My Dream.” Throughout the disc, drummer/songwriter John-Christian Urich drops his tales of agony about non-stop touring and the unfair abstinence of good love, even unrequited love. Although songs like the Motown-sounding title track and the slick acid jazz vibrations of “We Love Tequila” serve up a sweet dish of variety, Tortured Soul feed the flames of an invigorating style of house music using the power of pop and soul.
