Teddy Pendergrass
Life Is A Song Worth Singing
(Philadelphia International Records; 1978)

Teddy’s evolution from Blue Note frontman to ladies’ man/solo singer played out well on his sophomore disc, Life Is a Song Wirth Singing. The opening track, a startling Johnny Mathis remake, proves to be the balladeer’s motivation (“Only you generate the power to decide what to do with your life”). From there on out, Pendergrass gets comfortable in his own skin, going from sexy (“Only You”) to sexier (“Close the Door”).
