HiFi’s Holiday Guide 2012
Shut Up and Play the Hits: The Very Loud Ending of LCD Soundsystem
The decision made by James Murphy to cut off LCD Soundsystem baffled me. It wasn’t as if the band went through a Beatles-esque meltdown or had a big unregrettable death in the band like Led Zeppelin. And it wasn’t as if the demand wasn’t there for the band to continue. Partially burnt out with the road show, Murphy stalls LCD Soundsystem while riding high on the EDM gravy train. Shut Up and Play the Hits chronicles the last show at Madison Square Garden – a major New Years’ Day-styled hoopla that brings together all the punk disco of their relatively short, but influential catalog. A must-see for fans looking to get a grandiose experience of the urban rave. Retail price: $35
