Since 2019, August 5th has been recognized by Nashvillians and those in Dollywood as Dolly Parton Day. No, it has nothing to do with her actual of birth (Jan 19), but the day does acknowledge a significant, pivotal moment in Dolly’s career: When the singer-songwriter darling made her debut on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry at the Ryman Auditorium at the ripe age of 18. Former Nashville mayor David Briley selected the day of commemoration to acknowledge Parton’s philanthropic outreach and to celebrate a mighty 60+ music career, one that continues to inspire generations and the new league of pop stars ranging from Miley Cyrus to Beyoncé. The latter even covered Parton’s monumental song “Jolene” on her 2024 country-fusion LP Cowboy Carter which also contains a special appearance from the “9 to 5” superstar on the radio interlude of “Dolly P.”

And although Dolly Day isn’t nationally recognized – although we agree it should be, the popular record of the month vinyl mailing club Vinyl Me Please (www.vinylmeplease.com) has designed a loving way for vinyl enthusiasts to get involved and celebrate.

For 48 hours straight, VMP members may purchase three albums from their well-engineered, exclusive color variant LPs from various points in Dolly’s storied career and will receive one album free during purchase (by using the savings code DOLLY24). At the time of press, the company has thirteen classic and treasured albums from Parton’s collection in their repertoire. Some are considered some of her Parton’s essentials, including 2014’s Blue Smoke, the career-defining concept album 9 to 5 and Odd Jobs and 1971’s Coat of Many Colors – a revered critic’s staple containing one of her personal favorites to come from her pen.
