In the latest CHART BUZZ, Tony Bennett lands his first-ever No. 1 album, Lady Antebellum holds tight to number two spot; Maroon 5 and Rihanna burns up the Hot 100

At 85, Tony Bennett is celebrating one of the biggest surprises of his lifetime. Although he has seen many has seen many historic firsts throughout his sixty-year career, having a No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 has just been added to the list.

With Duets II, his latest all-star collaboartive album featuring performances with Lady Gaga, John Mayer, Aretha Franklin and the late Amy Winehouse, the legendary crooner claims the No. 1 spot this week, selling 179,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan reports.

The fourteen-time Grammy Award-winner previously climbed to No. 3 with his first Duets‘ disc (202,000) in 2006, but never had he obtained a Number One album. Bennett also becomes the oldest living artist to top the Billboard 200, beating Bob Dylan whose Together Through Life hit No. 1 in 2009, when he was 67 years old.

Last week’s No. 1, Lady Antebellum‘s Own The Night, fell to No. 2, selling 125,000  copies (down 64%). Adele trails the country trio with her best-selling sophomore album 21, with 117,000 copies sold (down 2%). Lil Wayne‘s Tha Carter IV drops 3-5 in its fourth week with 84,000 copies sold (down 28%).

Another big week for rock-pop band Maroon 5 who ascends with a mighty crescendo due to the popular success of “Moves Like Jagger,” which spends its fourth week at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 (for the week of Oct. 8). Rihanna also drops another new single on radio with “Cheers (Drink To That)” scoring its highest peak to date, rising 8-7.
