2015’s best singles showed off a revived Bieber, UK’s top songstress, some killer Uptown funk and The Weeknd’s summer jam

Adele said “hello” and the world said hello back. Mark Ronson put Morris Day funk at the top of the charts. Justin Bieber asked a simple question while set to sexy dance grooves. The Weeknd churned out an epic drug-loving anthem for the summer. And Drake had us all dancing silly to quasi-reggae while reaching for our cellphones. 2015 was the year when silly gimmicks made us all smile. And lots of chart-topping singles were birth from those ideas, from dance line pandemonium (Silento’s “Watch Me”) to Fetty Wap’s head boobing “Trap Queen.” Sure, those offerings dominated our music playlists, but they don’t conjure the essence of what makes a great song. These forty-five selections summed up what was great about music in 2015.
