Chart Buzz: Eminem, Jill Scott, Katy Perry, Jason Aldean
Eminem is back at No. 1 with rap duo EP, Jill Scott is expected to land her first No. 1 LP, Katy Perry’s “Friday” single is making major impact at radio and Jason Aldean’s “Dirt Road Anthem” quickly makes successful pop chart climb with a little help from Ludacris
Eminemshowed no sign of rocketing to the top of the charts as he stepped over the shoulders of 11-year old Jackie Evancho’s album debut. Bad Meets Evil, Nem’s duo album with rap partner Royce Da 5’9″, debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Hell: the Sequel sold 171,000 units on its first week according to Nielsen SoundScan reports. Evancho’s debut, Dream With Me, her first full-length LP on a major label and after winning ‘America’s Got Talent’, narrowed closely to Eminem’s numbers by selling 161,000.
Eminem’s last LP effort, Recovery, spent seven nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 in 2010 and has landed at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 six times as a solo artist. The album is making impact on the Hot 100 with "Lighters," which peaks at No. 16.
Jill Scott‘s highly-anticipated new album, The Light of the Sun, is expected to take the No. 1 spot next week. Its her first album on her newly-created label, Blues Babe, which is being distributed through Warner Bros. If the big news about Scott’s album is confirmed next week, this will become Scott’s first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200. Her previous releases on the Hidden Beach Recordings label have charted as high as No. 3 (Beautifully Human: Words and Sounds Vol. 2). Analysts are suspecting that the album was sell a possible 125,000 copies by the end of the week. So far, her album is being promoted with the lead single, “So In Love,” which features a duet with Anthony Hamilton. The single now sits at No. 1o on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, but has not penetrated the Hot 100.
With a successful all-star music video launch, Katy Perry‘s latest single, “T.G.I.F. (Last Friday Night)” is gaining major traction on the Hot 100 as it leaps into the top five. Adele’s "Rolling In the Deep" holds tightly to No. 1 and commands attention on Billboard’s Radio Songs (4th week at No. 1), but Perry’s single is the new talk of the town. “Last Friday Night” leaps 28-1, pushing Adele’s "Deep" out of the Digital Songs survey’s top spot. This will be the fourth single from Perry’s 2010 album, Teenage Dream, to become a No. 1 smash according to Nielsen. Airplay is also increasing for the song, as ot jumps 40-21 in its second week on Radio Songs. On the Hot 100, “Last Friday Night” leaps 31-4, becoming the chart’s top Digital Gainer.
With Adele’s still making music history with “Rolling In the Deep,” country sensation Jason Aldean is strumming his guitar to a happier tune as his midtempo ballad “Dirt Road Anthem” climbs 9-7 on the Hot 100. Aldean’s lastest single, now supported with a radio exclusive rap mix featuring Ludacris, has received a 60% boost in digital sales. Sale spikes are also being accredited to Aldean’s performance with Ludacris on the CMT Awards on June 8. The original album version featured a rap slot from Aldean, while the latest version adds an extra slot for Ludacris.
Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine takes some time away from NBC’s ‘The Voice’, where he serves as judge/coach, to make a surprise visit on Gym Class Heroes‘ newest single ‘Stereo Hearts.” The song enters the Hot 100 at No. 64. The song is expected to appear on the rap group’s forthcoming album, The Papercut Chronicles II.
