Maroon 5 Nabs Second No. 1 With “Jagger”
“Jagger” moves to No. 1; becoming second No. 1 for Maroon 5 and fifth for Christina Aguilera
Call it a miracle. At least in our eyes.
After weeks of yo-yo’ing up and down on the Billboard Hot 100, Maroon 5‘s “Moves Like Jagger” finally makes its leap to the hot spot. In 2007, the pop/rock band scored their first No. 1 pop hit with “Makes Me Wonder,” taken from the group’s sophomore album. The collaborative effort bringing together The Voice judges Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera wasn’t featured on the group’s third album, Hands All Over, but was smartly ammended to future digital album versions located at iTunes and other online retailers, granting the album its first No. 1.
The song also marks bonus points for contributing vocalist Christina Aguilera, who hadn’t had a No. 1 hit since assembling with divas Lil’ Kim, Mya and P!nk on the 2001 remake of “Lady Marmalade.” So far, Aguilera has banked five No. 1 hits.
The good news for Maroon 5’s frontman Adam Levine doesn’t end here. This week also finds “Stereo Hearts,” recorded by Gym Class Heroes and featuring Levine as a featured guest, crawling into the Top Ten (15-10). It also vaults 7-3 on the Digital Songs’ survey and 37-23 on the Radio Songs’ chart. Levine makes history being the first artist in a group and as a soloist to reach No. 1 and also have a song a hit in the Top 10 in the same week.
