Black Keys pumps out more of the same, and it’s still good

It’s not that hard to imagine Rolling Stones riffs on the Black Keys; they’ve done it before on “Howlin’ for You” and “Lonely Boy.” But “Fever,” their first single off their highly-anticipated eight studio album Turn Blue, places “Start Me Up” quirks inside a kaleidoscope of Beach Boy psychedelia. Possibly borrowing Peggy Lee’s contagious anthem bearing the same name as some last-minute inspiration, Dan Auerbach finds the aches and pains of high temperatures to be far more interesting than living in the norm: “Fever, can you hear me?/You shook me like I’ve never been/Now show me how to live again.”  Things are a bit typical inside the grooves and are totally familiar with their radio-ready uptempo rock, but if the record isn’t broke it shouldn’t be fixed.
