If Lady Gaga could pull off a hot slow jam with “Do What U Want,” then it’s not all that impossible to believe that the Black Keys could do the same. On “Turn Blue,” their second single to be released from their forthcoming Turn Blue disc, they go for a sound that’s so urbane that it sounds like sexy ‘70’s blaxplotation R&B and psychedelic rock n’ soul, as if Hall & Oates decided to get stoned. Even with an airy chorus that smells like a Justin Timberlake fantasy, there’s no space shuttle takeoff aboard here. Still it shows the Akron, Ohio duo trekking somewhere into unfamiliar territory. And the location’s environment is dressed with sexy subtleties.
