Glover takes off gloves in one of the more pivotal performances in Idol history

For a brief moment in the social networking universe of Facebook and Twitter last night, the hashtags were all about American Idol contestant Candice Glover. Her Sade-meets-Anita Baker rendition of Adele’s “Lovesong,” which also is a rendition of The Cure’s goth rock version, wowed the show’s judges with standing ovations. You could even hear during the performance Nicki Minaj growling out “I love you” with a Cookie Monster after bite. Randy Jackson, the oldest of the judges’ panel, raved that the 23-year old finalist gave the greatest performance of all the twelve seasons of Idol. Being the exquisite diva that Mariah Carey is (or professes to be), she had to put the cherry on top of the evening’s accolades by tossing what appeared to be confetti or glitter upon a very emotional Glover.

Across the Net, the praises seemed to be unanimous.

One Facebook member, Connie Meisner, wrote:

“Wow! If this young woman doesn’t win then America is seriously musically challenged.”

“Candice’s voice is amazing. #chillbumps,” expressed Jillian Gray, another random Idol fan.

Entertainment blog Hollywood Life even penned a post declaring that “Candice Glover Deserves to Win American Idol.”

The Christian Science Monitor even stated in a headline that Glover “brings the cure to ailing American Idol.”

For FOX’s sake, they better hope Glover’s performance and the wild praises that came with it gives them a boost in ratings, because the once-upon-a-time juggernaut hit show is now trailing behind The Voice and are fighting tooth-and-nail in the 18-49 demographic with Modern Family (ABC) and Big Bang Theory (CBS).

Candice gives a great performance consistently. I will mad as hell if she doesn’t win. I chose her as the winner the 1st time I heard her sing, in the audition.
