Elton John Hosts ‘Saturday Night Live’
The Rocket Man bursts his way onto SNL stage
Elton John may be considered too “big-time” to serve as a judge on American Idol, but the Rocket Man wasn’t too “out-of-this-world” to be a part of Saturday Night Live’s line-up this past weekend. John hosted the late-night sketch show for the second time, and also performed alongside 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Leon Russell (who also released the 2010 LP The Union). John’s inclusion in the skits also came with musical poise, particuarly on the familiar SNL sketch “Laser Cats.”
During his opening monlogue, John opened up with one of his famous lyrics: “The bitch is back.” He then jokes about fatherhood. “Its been a very exciting time for me. Just a few months ago my partner David Furnish and I became the proud parents of a beautiful baby boy!” Elton goes on to say, “…as you can see, I still haven’t lost the baby weight.”
Prior to his stop on SNL, John appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Friday evening last week.
Sir Elton John last hosted SNL in 1982.
