Cobra Starship: You Make Me Feel…
Out with the emo, in with the disco
New York alternative band Cobra Starship makes a shift in their electro musical workout to pump out hearty Eurodisco. With the first single off of their 2011 Night Shades, “You Make Me Feel…” bears the locomotion of Machine’s “There But For The Grace Of God Go I” and Nile Rodgers’ funky guitar lines. Certainly the derivative formula feels like David Guetta doing Katy Perry (“La la la la la”), especially with Sima adding her girly pipes to the mix, but the song has a kind of magic that effectively soothes the general managers at Top 40 and the deejay saviors of the underground discos. Must be the mix of real instruments with the digital experiments.
