Dressed around an endless Andy Griffith-like whistle, “I’m Alive” celebrates the positive energy and good vibrations that clearly defines Franti’s music. Although it tends to lack the island formula he’s best known for priming, the tune pulls off Paul Simon-esque acoustic guitar strumming to the club beats that’s clobbering the forefront. There are a few glitches inside that holds the song back from seriously taking off: The opening lines aren’t all that exhilarating and the chorus just repeats “I’m alive/I’m alive/I’m alive” while falling down the musical scale. Thankfully, Franti’s rap – tucked halfway into the track – does a great job in injecting old school humor into clever rhymes on pop culture: “Like John and Yoko/Ice-T and Coco/Like Jay-Z, Beyonce, come be my fiancé.”
