Beyoncé: Run The World (Girls)
Beyoncé’s latest single creates a world of trouble for days ahead
Beyoncé’s first single from her anticipated 2011 album release is a far cry from becoming a karaoke favorite like “Halo,” “Irreplaceable” and “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It).” It’s quite obvious from the album title that “Run This World (Girls)” keeps the ‘Single Ladies’ girl-power momentum afloat, but it feels like a spur-of-the-moment idea resulting from some late-night inspiration after a night at the club. Using ‘Drumline’ percussion, Black Eyed Peas’ vocal shredding, “Pon De Floor” simulations and screwy manipulated verses, Beyoncé releases a song with the exact same gusto of a fly-by-night demo. Queen B must seriously prove she’s got better arsenal in her closet than this. Otherwise, Ke$ha, Lady Gaga and Rihanna will surely belt out Sasha Fierce’s own words in three-part harmony: “You must not know ’bout me.”
