Katy Perry: Part of Me

Leaked dance-pop tune from Katy Perry looks like it might dash its way to the clubs

Bubbly synth waves and a consistent booming bass drum hold down the foundation of Katy Perry’s recently-leaked single “Part of Me.” It has a positive energy similiar to Kelly Clarkson’s “My Life Would Suck Without You,” but it’s more trendier in the vein of Ke$ha’s synthpop. In the song, Perry, while wounded from a painful breakup, sings of her inherited freedom: “I fell deep and you let me down but that was then and this is now/Now look at me.” It is being rumored that the new Dr. Luke track will be included in the expanded re-issue version of Teenage Dream, planning to drop next year. The upbeat song doesn’t match the album’s earlier singles (“California Gurls,” “Teenage Dream”), but it’s still catchy, upbeat and infectious on the dance meter.
