50 Daryl Hall & John Oates Songs You Better Have…Or Else
“How Does It Feel to Be Back”
(1980, #30 pop)
Writer: John Oates
Producer: Daryl Hall, John Oates
from the album Voices
As the opening track for Voices, the Oates-only composition sways with the grit and tenacity of a John Mellencamp piece. Oates carries the solo by showing off his youthful, yet slightly coarse pipes. Although the song’s chorus becomes quite repetitive, G.E. Smith’s guitar riffs and the duo’s tightly-knitted harmonies makes up for its weaknesses.
