On his own, Daryl Hall proved he could duplicate the H&O formula without his trusty sidekick. “Can’t Stop Dreaming,” with its bubbly sing-a-long chorus, stacked harmonies and the lyrical nod to their dreamy hit (“You Make My Dreams”), proves to be the finest of those solo entries. Co-written with Walter Afanasieff and Dan Shea (Mariah Carey), the song almost never saw a U.S. arrival since it was originally released in Japan in 1997. It finally made an American debut in 2003. Much time had passed between those releases, but good grooves should have no expiration date.
