Elton John Sends Out Tough Love for Billy Joel
Billy Joel needs rehab, tough love, according to former touring partner Elton John
Sir Elton John opens up about his frustrations with former touring partner Billy Joel in the Feb. 17 edition of Rolling Stone. John tells the magazine that Joel needs to seriously “do something better” with his life and enter into a rehab. He also opens up about the pair cancelling many dates on their ‘Face to Face’ tour because of Joel’s illnesses and “alcoholism.”
John says he knows Joel is going to “hate” him for this. But he says Joel needs tough love.
“He’s going to hate me for this, but every time he goes to rehab they’ve been light,” John says. “When I went to rehab, I had to clean the floors. He goes to rehab where they have TVs. I love you, Billy, and this is tough love. Billy, you have your demons and you’re not going to get rid of them at rehab light.”
John believes John is slacking on his talent and hurts over the very little output he’s released recently. “At the end of the day, he’s coasting,” John adds. “I always say, ‘Billy, can’t you write another song?’ It’s either fear or laziness. It upsets me. Billy’s a conundrum.”
A representative from Joel’s camp hasn’t responded to the press regarding John’s comments.
