CHIC Is Back, Drops Snippet of Funky New Single
Snippet of new dance funk coming from Chic could be the hottest thing to come out this winter
It’s been almost 23 years since Chic co-founder Nile Rodgers dropped the last Chic album. That’s a lifetime for some acts, but Chic & Nile Rodgers aren’t a rusty group. They’ve been gigging notoriously and performing in sold-out arenas and stadiums across the globe, even as Rodgers braved the fight of his life as he battled prostate cancer. Now cancer free and experiencing a momentous career bump via Daft Punk’s Grammy-winning album Random Access Memories, Rodgers is hard at work on the new album. And apparently what’s about to drop is going to be Chic-nificent.
A fifteen-second sample of “I’ll Be There” surfaced on Rodgers’ YouTube page on Valentine’s Day and it showcases all the funky good stuff that’s made Chic such a bad-ass dance band. Rhythmic inescapable guitar riffs fill the entirety of that short sample, and the funk is definitely still in place. It’s pretty obvious that the forthcoming single, also featuring the help of the Martinez Brothers, sounds like it’s been inspired by Sister Sledge’s “Got to Love Somebody.” But hey, anything remotely similar to that old school nostalgia is perfectly find with me. You can’t keep a good groove down.
You can pre-order the single at iTunes, which officially drops on March 20.
