‘Skeletons”
(Motown; 1987)
from the album Skeletons

Although Wonder’s trademark funk had been garnished to imitate Yarbrough & Peoples, Wonder still sounds hip on “Skeletons.” In places on the song, you can earnestly hear how influential golden era rap was on Wonder’s imagination, especially as he takes on the tough subjects of “white lies” and karma. Listen carefully and you could imagine this as a bonus track on Jackson’s Bad.
