Dennis Edwards’s “Don’t Look Any Further” had been blasting on urban radio during the spring of 1984. Wonder then decides to take the bass lines of the song from his Motown buddy and designs a poppier frame around it. And it worked: Edwards’s “Don’t Look Any Further” stalled at No. 72 pop, while Wonder’s “Love Light in Flight” shot into the Top 20.
