Dark house beats brings out the best in Brooklyn disco band’s new single
Fusing the “supernature” imagination of Cerrone with the knockout reverberations of deep house, Brooklyn super nu-disco band Escort launches into a sleazy escapade of dancefloor confection ready to make landfall at a Daft Punk rave. It’s not as ravenous as the heat-seeking missiles shot on their 2012 self-titled album (“Cocaine Blues,” “Caméleon Chameleon”) or conjures the addictive qualities of last year’s non-album single “If You Say So,” but it plays up to the innovative disco tributes they’ve been known for. Most striking on this round is the peculiar danger lurking beneath the bouncing bass and glittery synths, as if frontwoman Adeline Michèle and her company are walking around the confetti of Donna Summer’s “Love to Love You Baby.”
