Remixing a hit is usually a tedious job, especially when one has the tough job to better something that’s already great. “Love Is In Control (Finger on the Trigger),” one of Donna Summer’s post-disco hits, was originally dolled up as her foray into Michael Jackson pop. It worked, but the world wasn’t looking for the disco queen to take MJ’s place and the song hardly rivaled the works that Giorgio Moroder oversaw. What Chromeo and Oliver provide to this pounding mix for the forthcoming Love to Love You Donna remix compilation is quite rewarding to Summer’s legacy. It properly updates the grooves, takes it away from MJ territory and plants her in an Eighties pop-rock wonderland that’s highly complementary to Moroder’s electronic vibes. It’s safe to say that the remix outshines the original. In the case of a tune that’s often stamped with a mid-grade rating inside Summer’s lucrative catalog, this mix does what it needs to do. It preserves the integrity of the original lifts the song to a higher love, ultimately giving Summer’s voice more open space to fill the dance floor. Now the pressure is surely on the other producers to do what they can for the rest of the album. Chromeo & Oliver have already raised the bar to high expectations.
