Duffy: Well, Well, Well

UK soul/pop singer runs into an upbeat retro-sounding pop number that instantly reminds us of another successful Brit

The new single from Duffy, the Welsh singer who hit it big with 2008’s “Mercy,” is once again channeling  the Amy Winehouse work ethic. This time, Duffy’s Cyndi Lauper-esque fun vibes are topped with ?uestlove’s engaging drumming and a strong supporting cast of musicians. Pop melody is there, but the musical sections lack sophistication since the chords don’t change much. The song’s hook sticks to the ear for a handful of spins, but starts to wear off after the eighth cycle. Thankfully, the song is only three-minutes long. That way, it dosen’t wear out so fast. In defense of Duffy’s subpar single, there’s a music video – adding a little more replay value and entertainment to the package.
