Adele: Rolling In The Deep

In “Rolling” video, Adele goes deep and she don’t get no sleep

Brit soul sensation Adele had everything working for her when working up some kind of art direction for her music video for “Rolling In The Deep.” All the right dramatics and intense emotions are there; leaving the imagination brimming with theatrical concepts. But instead of going wild with background dancers or putting Adele in an uncompromising position to learn Laurieann Gibson choreography, director Sam Brown (Jay-Z, James Blunt) uses the pulse of the music to guide the scenes: A seated Adele meditating her way out of her scorn, a drummer pounding ripples in the water displayed in endless glasses, flying China being tossed against the wall, a sword-wielding ballerina-like shinobi dancing to the rhythms and the burning of an architectural model of a city with Adele’s bluesy lyrics pointing the way to its fatality (“You had my heart and soul in your hand/And you played it to the beat”). It’s almost like watching a tamer and more responsible version of Eminem & Rihanna’s Love The Way You Lie.”
