Circa 1985, Wham! takes the stage in China for a moving performance of “Blue”

George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley – best known statewide as Wham! –  rose to fame with the catchy ’60’s ode “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” and continued their rise with an onslaught of worldwide pop hits. Wham!’s  tenure as a successful group didn’t last long; announcing their breakup in Spring 1986. Theydid manage to end on a very big note. “Last Christmas” became a holiday standard and a documentary profiling their history-making, arena-proportionate 10-day stint in China. Wham! became the first Western pop group to enter the nation and the story was put on film. For the VHS live concert release of Foriegn Skies, the UK duo performed “Blue (Armed With Love).”  With a smooth Sade styling and a little Culture Club magic, the song oozed with sexiness and revealed promise of Michael becoming a successful solo artist.  “Blue” was even tossed into the group’s last album Music From the Edge of Heaven. Now we finally get a chance to see what happen – visually – on that historic night in China.

Thanks John Shim Sterling for passing the video along.
