Massive block party for mix genius kicks off on King Street

Those who were fortunate to experience the mighty superpowers of DJ turntablist extraordinaire Larry Levan at work inside the infamous Paradise Garage are doing everything in their power to get New York City’s King Street renamed in his honor. Courtesy of Red Bull Music Academy, a super-sized street block party featuring guest mixers François Kevorkian, David DePino, Joey Llanos and others has been planned for Mother’s Day (May 11) on the blocks of Varick and Hudson.

The event is being streamed online on Livestream for free at and will end at 6 p.m. (EST). You may also watch it here.

UPDATE: Authorities are asking the event to end the event at 5 p.m. (EST) due to high numbers of traffic. An extra 2,000 on the outside of the event are trying to make their way to the block party and are causing major traffic issues.
