Kings of Leon: Supersoaker
Details
Genre: Alt-rock, RockPros:
Pretty standard to the KOL regimen; great chorus full of guitar riffing.Cons:
Slightly meager than "Sex on Fire;" proving increasingly hard to top a classicNot quite a summer anthem, unless you like ‘em to sound like The Strokes-meets-Motown

Breaking the silence, the Followill brothers revisit the energies of “Sex on Fire” on their first major leap into new material off their forthcoming 2013 album. “Supersoaker” falls in line with what is synonymous to KOL: Catchy sing-a-long chorus, Caleb’s grainy Bruce Springsteen-esque vocal, arena-rock guitar strokes. But this time around, there’s more of an incorporation of Motown tapestry (tempo, tambourine) and The Strokes alt-rock fervor. There’s a bit of summer fun (“Cause I’m a super soaker red white and blue ‘em all away”) in the mix, but the song is of the maturing kind. “I don’t mind sentimental girls at times/Miss, don’t walk away,” Caleb sings passionately on the song’s brilliant chorus as he succumbs to the “good vibrations” that dance around one hard-to-shake lady. Sure, it sounds like a summer song, but deep down inside the Kings are not ashamed to say they are growing up.
