Paramount Network kicks off new network with “baddest lip synch battle in history”
Years after his passing, Michael Jackson still reigns as the King of Pop.
So it makes sense for the newly-minted Paramount Network (taking the place of Spike TV) to make their world premiere with a King of Pop showcase thriller, all powered by the popular cable reality-TV show ‘Lip Sync Battle’.
The one-hour special Lip Sync Battle Live: A Michael Jackson Celebration, hosted by LL Cool J and model Chrissy Tiegen, will include celebrity performances (yes, in the form of lip-synching) from Neil Patrick Harris, Taraji P. Henson, Hailee Steinfield and a few surprise guests. The cast of Michael Jackson One: Cirque Du Soleil is also scheduled to make a special appearance.
“The King of Pop is the most groundbreaking, theatrical superstar of all time and we are thrilled to be performing and celebrating the electrifying music of Michael Jackson on our big night,” said Casey Patterson, the show’s executive producer. “We are taking Lip Sync Battle to new heights, live at The Dolby Theater for the launch of The Paramount Network.”
The event will kick off the show’s season four, which will air on Thursdays at 9:30 pm ET/PT beginning Jan. 25.
Although views are up for Lip Sync Battle in light of its two Emmy nominations, it’s been a juggernaut ratings hit on social media. On Facebook, it has racked up two million followers, two million subscribers on YouTube and has been received one billion views across multiple platforms.
