A sad farewell of a love that “just won’t work,” “Throw the Roses Away” feels like a slower burner when matched up with “She’s Gone.” It never reaches that kind of apex, but Hall & Oates and a leading sax solo from Charles DeChant shepherd this rhapsodic ballad using the sensibilities of a Spinners’ exercise and the artisan gracefulness of an Elton John piano sparkler.
