The 1977 compilation No Goodbyes, a desperate compilation released by Atlantic Records to cash in on the success of Hall & Oates coming from RCA, opened the world to the smooth pop sounds of “It’s Uncanny.” It’s an overlooked beaut from the pre-H&O golden era dating back to 1973 and showcases the luxuriousness of doo-wop done using a Doobie Brothers-meets-Fleetwood Mac template. Atlantic released it as a single but it did nothing, but has since been warmly received with devout H&O collectors since it showed up in their playlist at Live at the Troubadour and managed to make its way to their 2009 four-disc box set, Do What You Want, Be What You Are.
