As if they were done with trying to impress music charts, Hall and Oates wrote a sweet open letter to their fans, letting them know that weren’t chasing those MTV dreams anymore: “I won’t do it for money/I won’t do it for pride/I won’t do it to please somebody if it don’t feel right/But I’ll do it for you.” The song, “Do It for Love,” landed them their eight number one hit on the adult contemporary charts, but missed the Billboard Hot 100 completely. Despite it not being a big commercial smash, the song proved to be perfect for their New Millennium comeback.
