Special Report: The Worst Homophobic Churches in America
First Baptist Church
Dallas, Texas
Robert Jeffress, pastor
When popular Florida Christian quarterback and less-than-popular NY Jet player Tim Tebow accepted the invitation to speak to the gathered at First Baptist Church, the internet quickly broadcasted the beliefs shared by the church’s leader. Rev. Robert Jeffress preached, “There are a disporportinate amount of assaults against children by homosexuals than by heterosexuals you can’t deny that. This was bring preached at a church seminar with the class “What to Say to Those Who are Gay, Part 2.” In the series of teaching, Jeffress expresses that being gay is a “a degradation of a person’s mind and if a person will sink that low and there are no restraints from God’s law, then there is no telling to whatever sins he will commit as well.” The pastor has also extended his fire-and-brimstone sermons to those who practices other religions.
In the end, the star quarterback cancelled. Pastor eventually got the last word: “”I am grateful for men of God…who are willing to stand up and act like men rather than wimping out when it gets a little controversial and an inconvenient thing to stand for the truth,” Jeffress said.
A sermon in 2008 titled “Gay Is Not Okay” left him saying this:
“What they [homosexuals] do is filthy. It is so degrading that it is beyond description. And it is their filthy behavior that explains why they are so much more prone to disease.”
