NBC Universal Plans Hurricane Sandy Televised Telethon
NBC Universal is drumming up their Nov. 2 telethon of music greats for Sandy survivors and victims
The devastation from Hurricane Sandy – a category 1 hurricane – struck the American East coast right before Halloween and has left up to millions of dollars of damage and killing dozens – with that number to rise in days to come. The American Red Cross, FEMA and other charities and help groups are moving in to help restore the area and to bring much needed help. Meanwhile, the NBC Universal network has announced that more help is on the way.
“Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together,” a benefit concert to aid victims of Sandy, will air at 8 p.m. ET on the networks of NBC Universal.
Scheduled performers will include Christina Aguilera, Jon Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, along with Sting and Billy Joel. The program will be hosted by TODAY’s Matt Lauer. Brian Williams and Jimmy Fallon are also scheduled to appear as co-hosts.
Bon Jovi and Springsteen are natives of New Jersey. Joel and Aguilera are natives of New York.
All monies collected will be donated to the American Red Cross relief efforts. The special will air Friday at 8 p.m. ET/ 7 CST on NBC, USA Network, SyFy, MSNBC, CNBC, Bravo, E!, Style Network, G4 and more. It will also be live streamed on NBC.com.

The Salvation Army is providing meals and shelter. “At this point, in-kind donations, such as used clothing and used furniture, are not being accepted for hurricane relief. However, these items are vital to supporting the day-to-day work of your local Salvation Army,” the organization said Tuesday in a press release.
