Christian band Casting Crowns has to bow at No. 2 with Adele back on top

Christian band Casting Crowns makes their big splash on the Billboard 200 with their fourth top 10 album, Come To The Well. But it has to settle for second-place once again.

Adele‘s chart-topping 21 ascends back to No. 1, selling 106,000 copies last week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The sophomore album from the Brit singer has accounted thirteen weeks at the No. 1 spot, closing in on 1998’s motion picture soundtrack to Titanic (16 weeks at No. 1).

Astonishingly, Adele’s album remains the year’s biggest selling album with 4.1 million units accounted for, now ahead 2 million units from Lady Gaga’s Born This Way (1.9 mil).

Casting Crowns’ Come To The Well sold 99,000 in its first week and will have to settle for the second slot on the Billboard 200. This becomes the group’s second album to shot to No. 2. 2007’s The Altar And The Door also claimed the No. 2 spot, although their last album Until the Whole World Hears debuted and peaked at No. 4.

A couple of interesting moves are taking place for other acts, including the debut album for Scotty McCreery (Clear As Day), which rises 4-3 (57,000). Evanescence‘s self-titled project drops 1-4 (40,000). Tony Bennett‘s Duets II climbs 6-5 (39,000), Lil Wayne‘s Tha Carter IV climbs 96 (36,000) and Lady Antebellum‘s Own The Night jumps 8-7 (34,000).

R&B singer Joe lands at No. 8 with his new album The Good, The Bad, The Sexy, selling 33,000 copies on its first week and becoming his fifth Top Ten album.

Also in Adele news: Her second single, “Somebody Like You,” also champions its reign at the Billboard 100. But Rihanna‘s latest single, “We Found Love,” is becoming the next in line for the top spot. Over at the Digital Songs’ survey, Ri’s single, which features Calvin Harris, ascends 3-1. This becomes Rihanna‘s eleventh No. 1 on that survey and works in her favor in giving her a possible No. 1 on the Hot 100. Also on the Digital Songs’ survey, LMFAO‘s “Sexy And I Know It” holds tight to No. 2, while Drake‘s “Make Me Proud” becomes the highest gainer, soaring 60-4 with 166,000 copies sold.

Next week’s numbers look to be working in favor for Coldplay on their latest musical offering, Mylo Xyloto, which may easily take the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200, with Kelly Clarkson’s Stronger also making a major debut in the top 10.

Currently, the album isn’t available on web-streaming services like Spotify and Rhapsody, per the band’s request. The lack of hearing the album online may push fans and customers to purchase the physical or digital download versions. So far the debut single “Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall” has racked up an impressive amount of 763,000 copies sold so far and Billboard estimates between 440,000 and 450,000 copies of the album will be sold through Sunday.

Have to tune in next week to see what happens. Same chart time, same chart channel.

  1.

Adele rocks! I love listening to her songs. Even Chester of Linkin Park recognizes her and made a cover of her Rolling In The Deep.
