Britney Spears: Hold It Against Me
Shameless Sony plugs and diva pride takes up too much of the airtime in “Hold It Against Me” video
It’s pretty obvious by now that Britney Spears is desperate in making 2011 her comeback moment. Now with Ke$ha and Gaga owning her on her old playground of dance-pop, Spears is jumping back into the ring with a campy, under-the-big top slideshow loaded with Diana Ross wardrobe changes, Cirque du Soleil dancers, Sony-sponsored gadgets, Britney’s perfume plugs and even a Spears vs. Spears-Mortal Kombat fight sequence. The visuals are remarkably stunning with its futuristic high-tech layouts, but the ballooning white dress scene, ego-inducing femme fatale divaism and the awkward ketchup-mustard paint squirts seem a bit distasteful for any serious referrals towards a modern pop takeover. With all the money pumped into this music video, they could’ve hired a better director with enough heart for a fairly decent single.
