‘Billboard’ annual year-end double issue reveals the king and queen of the genres

2010 was dominated by dance-pop it seems. And with that, it’s no surprise to see Lady Gaga – the Queen who started it all – dominating the Top Artists’ list in Billboard’s annual year-End Double Issue. Songs like “Alejandro,” “Telephone” and “Bad Romance” made its way to pop radio and continues their reign on various Dance Club, Digital  Songs and Rhythmic playlists. Ke$ha, who was crowned Top New Artist and Hot 100 Artist of 2010 by Billboard, wasn’t too far behind on the Top Artist board; coming in at No. 5. Her dance-pop anthems, “Tik Tok,” “Your Love Is My Drug” and her most recent “We R Who We R,” made her a serious competitor with Lady Gaga. Although not seen on the top 10, Katy Perry did land at No. 11. Other dance-pop favorites (Rihanna, The Black Eyed Peas, Usher, Justin Beiber) also landed in the top 10.

Taylor Swift and Lady Antebellum, selling massive units with their individual releases, also gave them considerable airplay; fulling more demand for country-pop.

Drake and Eminem also had powerfully-executed hits and astounding record sales with their individual album releases (Thank Me Later, Recovery); also putting the eversatile emcees in the top 10.

Here’s the layout of how each artist did on the Top Artists’ survey.
